What is chiropractic and how can it help?

Centenary Chiropractic Centre

Over 100 years ago, D.D. Palmer (the Founder of Chiropractic) had a "big idea" — that good health can be sustained naturally, without drugs or surgery, through chiropractic care. Today, chiropractic is the second largest licensed health care profession.

Chiropractors work with and enhance the body's natural ability to heal itself without drugs or surgery. Like all professional health care practitioners, chiropractors follow definite protocols to gain the information to provide you with the best care. They will take your history and conduct physical, orthopaedic and neurological examinations and may order or take X-rays.

What is chiropractic?

Centenary Chiropractic Centre

We know that the nervous system controls the functions of every tissue, organ and system in the body. Chiropractic concerns itself with the relationship between structure (primarily ale spine) and function (primarily coordinated by the nervous system) of the human body, and how that relationship affects the restoration and preservation of health.

When that relationship is compromised by a spinal bone interfering with your nervous system (a vertebral subluxation), your chiropractor will deliver a spinal adjustment (a specific, precise, corrective force to the offending spinal segment).

This correction permits normal nerve transmission, enabling the body's innate recuperative power to begin the healing process. It is said that the body needs no help or interference in looking after itself.

 What is Trochanteric Bursitis?

What is Trochanteric Bursitis?

Tuesday, December 6, 2022

Trochanteric Bursitis is a common hip complaint that involves inflammation of the Bursa (a small, cushioning sac located where tendons pass over areas of bone around the joints).  The trochanteric bursa sits on the permanent part of the hip bone (femur) and has both a superficial and deep part.

The bursa may be inflamed by a group of muscles or tendons rubbing over the Bursa and causing friction against the thigh bone.

Bursitis may develop gradually or traumatically. When inflamed, pressure on the hip, such as sleeping on your side may be painful. Pain can also be present when getting out of a chair or climbing stairs. Trochanteric Bursitis is a common injury in runners and cyclists.

Diagnosis is made based on patient history and the presence of tenderness to pressure over the Bursa. Bursitis may be secondary to condition such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Treatment typically includes ice (up to three to four times per day), weight loss (if overweight), heel lifts (if legs are significantly uneven) and chiropractic care to restore biomechanical balance to pelvis and hips. Chiropractic care will usually involve a combination of specific spinal, hip and pelvic adjustments, along with an appropriate exercise programme.

In some cases non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or cortisone injections may be required. For these cases your chiropractor will refer to another practitioner for care management.
