What is chiropractic and how can it help?

Centenary Chiropractic Centre

Over 100 years ago, D.D. Palmer (the Founder of Chiropractic) had a "big idea" — that good health can be sustained naturally, without drugs or surgery, through chiropractic care. Today, chiropractic is the second largest licensed health care profession.

Chiropractors work with and enhance the body's natural ability to heal itself without drugs or surgery. Like all professional health care practitioners, chiropractors follow definite protocols to gain the information to provide you with the best care. They will take your history and conduct physical, orthopaedic and neurological examinations and may order or take X-rays.

What is chiropractic?

Centenary Chiropractic Centre

We know that the nervous system controls the functions of every tissue, organ and system in the body. Chiropractic concerns itself with the relationship between structure (primarily ale spine) and function (primarily coordinated by the nervous system) of the human body, and how that relationship affects the restoration and preservation of health.

When that relationship is compromised by a spinal bone interfering with your nervous system (a vertebral subluxation), your chiropractor will deliver a spinal adjustment (a specific, precise, corrective force to the offending spinal segment).

This correction permits normal nerve transmission, enabling the body's innate recuperative power to begin the healing process. It is said that the body needs no help or interference in looking after itself.

 Chiropractic Management of Osteoarthritis

Chiropractic Management of Osteoarthritis

Dr. Steve Hodal is an expert of Osteoarthritis (OA), which is a common degenerative disorder that affects joints. Contact us to know more about this disorder.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a very common degenerative disorder that affects joints and is common in people aged over 45 years. It is most common in weight bearing joints such as the spine, hips and knees, but can occur in any joint.

In a normal joint, the ends of the bones are covered by a layer of cartilage. Cartilage helps the joint move smoothly and cushions the ends of the bones. In OA, the cartilage breaks down and becomes thin.

Like the tyres on a car, we all wear out with use eventually. However, just as tyres wear out faster if the wheels are out of alignment, joints may wear out faster if we have poor muscle balance or if joints are injured. For this reason, having proper care to restore and maintain joint alignment and improve muscle function is important.

Chiropractic techniques to help people with osteoarthritis are aimed at gently returning movement to the joints and improving stability in the muscles. Most people with osteoarthritis can expect some improvement with chiropractic care, although the generation itself will remain.

Research has shown supplements such as Fish Oil, Glucosamine and Chondroitin can be of some benefit to arthritic joints.
