This year I’m definitely going to see my family Chiropractor

Another year has flown by and once again it is time for the obligatory New Year resolutions. Here are some tips to keep you in great health:

Regular Exercise

Better sleep, better immunity and more energy are some well known benefits of mid intensity exercise such as swimming, walking or cycling. You should aim for a minimum of half an hour per session at least three times a week. If you're just getting back into it remember to start easy and build up work levels slowly. Exercise companions or groups are great ways to socialize while working out and can also help to reduce the temptation to skip sessions!

Balanced Diet

Western diets are overloaded with saturated fats and refined carbohydrates. A balanced diet, rich in protein, un-refined carbohydrates and unsaturated fats is essential for proper nutrition. Try and include two fruits and five vegetables in your daily diet. Drink at least two litres of water per day for adequate hydration. This is especially important during our hot summer months. Remember caffeine, soft drinks and some teas can actually deplete your body of water, so you must drink more water when these drinks are consumed.

Quit Smoking

Smoking is a highly addictive habit that harms you and the people around you. The body can heal many detrimental effects of smoking if given a chance. The extra $2000 which a 'pack a day' smoker could save each year would surely pay for a great holiday. Of the 4000 chemicals that have been identified in cigarette smoke at least 43 are known to cause cancer in humans. Apart from their use in cigarette smoke, other uses for these chemicals include: petrol additive, corpse embalming fluid, toilet cleaner, nail polish remover, insecticide, car exhaust fumes, rat poison and, of course, gas chamber poison.

Stress Release Activities

If stress were easy to get rid of, it simply wouldn't be stress. Therefore it's becoming increasingly important to set aside relaxation time to help manage stress. Be it exercise, reading a book or listening to music, make sure that you set aside 20-30 minutes per day to unwind. For those of you who think that you can't afford that amount of time - make it one hour! Far from being selfish, this time will improve your health, family life and work efficiency. It also provides the clarity of thinking needed to solve a stressful problem.

Keep your central nervous system free of interference while maintaining your spine with regular chiropractic care. The spine has moveable parts and, like all moveable parts - be it your car or equipment, it needs regular maintenance. Preventative chiropractic checkups will ensure that your body continues to function at its maximum potential.

Make it your resolution to follow these simple steps to help ensure that 2020 is a happier and healthier year for you.
