Sciatica – A pain in the back

Sciatica is a common pain that occurs in the back. It hurts when you walk or move. It is usually in the butt, thigh, and leg.

Sciatica is a pain in the leg that may last for weeks or months. The pain may be worse when you sit, sneeze or cough. It can range from mild to incapacitating, and might also cause tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness.

Sciatica is a condition that is often mistaken for other types of pain. It is caused when the sciatic nerve is irritated, which can lead to pain in the lower back, legs, and feet. However, not all pain in the leg is sciatica. The cause of the pain will determine the treatment.

The discs in your back can become worn and bulge. If this happens, the disc may press on a nerve and cause pain. We can do physical, Orthopaedic and Neurological exams, also x-rays and scans if required.

If your spine gets out of place, you might get problems like pain. This is called "sciatica". Your chiropractor will do tests to see if the problem is with your back or your spinal cord.

The sciatic nerve goes through or in front of the piriformis muscle deep in the buttock. When this muscle spasms due to pelvic imbalance, it can compress the sciatic nerve, causing a condition known as Piriformis Syndrome.

Most cases of sciatica can be treated with chiropractic care and specific exercises. Rarely, there may be a more serious problem causing the sciatica pain, and in these cases, a medical referral may be necessary.
